Biography

Lebedev Gennady (29.12.1938, Vitebsk – 14.11.1999, Vitebsk), Belarusian art critic, historian, art historian and painter. He graduated from Vitebsk Art and Graphic Pedagogical College (1959), Institute of Painting (Department of Theory and History of Art), Academy of Arts of the USSR named after Ilya Repin (Sculpture and Architecture Department, 1980). He investigated the works by F. Skorina, ancient belarusian art; he was the author of articles in «BelSE» (published in 1970), «Collection of Historical and Cultural monuments. Vіtsebsk region» (І985), in the collection «Belarusіka» (vol. 1), «Historical and Cultural Monuments of Belarus», «Art», «Neman», «Polymya». He was the author of some critical articles concerning modern art, the works of the artists of Vitebsk and Vitebsk region in periodicals.

Worked in graphics and painting.

In the 1990s the painter created the compositions in easel painting including «The Church of the Protection and Nativity of Virgin Mary XVI in Pskov», «St. Nicholas Church in village Ikazn» (1992), «On the Former Frontier with the Livonian Order quietly», «St. Nicholas Monastery», «The Church's Ruins in Ulla» (1996), «Casual Vitebsk» (1998), «Old Fresco (Archangel)», «Image», «Memory», «The Temple of Polotsk Merchants» (1990),etc.
