Biography 

Belyavsky Vasily (18.03.1924, v-ge Krashino, Orsha district – 30.04.2008, Vitebsk), a Belarusian artist. He graduated from Art and Graphic Department of Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (1970). Vasily Nikolayevich was a pupil of F. Gumen, I. Stolyarov. He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War. Since 1942, he fought in the field. Since 1945, the artist worked in the institutions of culture and education, national institutions: as the head of Bogushevsk Cultural Center of district status, a secondary school teacher in the town of Bogushevsk in Syanno District, the head of the Executive Board for Adaptation for the Screen cinema (1966–1969), the head of Vitebsk Art Workshops of the Art Foundation of the Byelorussian SSR (1969–1981). He was decorated with the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Сlass, with three medals «For Battle Merit», with the medal «For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945» and other military awards. Since 1988, Vasily Nikolayevich was a member of the Union of Artists.

He worked mainly in easel painting.

Among his major works are: the thematic compositions on the theme of the Great Patriotic War «Fire upon Oneself» (1974), «The Places of Partisan Glory» (1977), «The Meeting of the Soviet Army Fighters with Guerrillas» (1980), «The Mound of Partisan Glory» (1981), «The Wounds of the Land» (1981), on the theme of modern times - «Land Reclamation Experts» (1971), «Night Shift» (1976); the landscapes «Indian Summer» (1973), «Luchesa» (1976), «Snow in May» (1978), «Spring Landscape» (1979), «The River Tikhaya» (1982), «Morning» (1983), «Before Sunset» (1984), «Lake Vorony» (1984); the portraits «Portrait of the Foreman» (1970), «Portrait of the Hero of Socialist Labor G. Ye. Ramchenko» (1971), «Hospital Nurse» (1973); still lifes «Autumn Still Life» (1982).

The artist's works are kept in the National Art Museum of Belarus, Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History.
