Biography
Dezhits Valentin (09.03.1904, Helsinki, Finland – 29.12.1964, Vitebsk), a Belarusian painter and teacher. He graduated from Vitebsk Art College in 1926, where he was taught by V. Volkov, and from the Higher Art and Technical Institute in Leningrad in 1930, where he was taught by K. Petrov-Vodkin. From 1931 to 1941, he worked in an art college, and in the years 1948-1964 – in an art and graphics teachers college, and later he worked at the Art and Graphics Department of Vitebsk Pedagogical Institute. Since 1946 Valentin Konstantinovich was a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists.
The artist worked in the genres of thematic painting and landscape. One of the central themes – lyric landscapes of Vitebsk and its suburbs.
Among his works are: «Oncoming» (1932), «Depot» (1932), «City in Winter» (1937), «Last Pedestrians» (1946), «January 9» (1947), «Reconstruction of the Bridge over the Vitba River in Vitebsk in 1944» (1952), «Incoming of Spring» (1956), «Alongside Vitebsk Quay» (1958), «Morning on the Vitba» (1958), «March» (1960), «Forest to Vitebsk» (1961), and others.
His works are kept in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the funds of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History.
