Biography

Shamshur Vyacheslav (20.08.1942, v-ge Ptitskie, Miory district, Vitebsk region), Belarusian art, graphic artist. He graduated from Art and Graphic Department of Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (1970), finished postgraduate course of the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore of National Academy of Sciences (1978). A Candidate of Arts (1980), a professor (1993). Since 1970 he has been teaching at Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (now the University named after P.M. Masherov), the Head of the Department of Art (1986-2005), a professor of the Department of Design (2006). A member of Belarusian Union of Artists (1993).

The artist works in different techniques of easel graphics. The main works are created in linocut and pastels.

Among the works are: «St. Basil's Cathedral. Evening Liturgy» (1996), «Braslav District. Belmonty» (1999), «Window at the Studio» (2004), «Before the Feast of Trinity Sunday» (2004), «The Evening in Bychki» (2006), «The Greatness of the Past» (2006), «Vilnius Baroque. Glubokoye» (2007), «The Pines of Pridvinie» (2008), «The Well by the Road» (2009), «Blue Stove» (2009), a series «The Road to Miory» (1986-94), «Vitebsk and Vitebsk Region» (1988 -96), and others.

The artist explores the history of Belarusian art of the first half of the ХХth century, the works of contemporary artists of Vitebsk. Vyacheslav Vyacheslavovich is the author of the monograph «The Celebrations of Revolution» (Minsk, 1989), the section «The History of Belarusian Art» (Vol. 4, Minsk, 1991), articles in «Encyclopedia of Literature and Art of Belarus», the periodical press.
