Biography

 

Tsybulsky Mikhail (10.07.1961, Vitebsk), Belarusian art critic, painter and teacher. He graduated from Art and Graphic Department of Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (1983), finished postgraduate course of the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore of National Academy of Sciences (1987) and institution of doctoral candidacy (2004). A Candidate of Arts (1989), an associate professor (1992). Since 1988 he has been working at Vitebsk Pedagogical Institute (now Vitebsk State University) as a senior lecturer (1990), an associate Professor of Art (1992), the Head of the Department of Art (2004-05), an assistant professor of Fine Arts Department (2005). A member of Belarusian Union of Artists (1999).

The artist creates his compositions in oil and gouache. His pictorial compositions are characterized by emotional expressiveness, realistic interpretation of the motives and images, expressive brushwork, rich color.

Among the works are: the landscapes «Sophia of Polotsk» (1985), «Red Trees» (1985), «The Temple in Mozyr» (1999), «Podsvilye. Winter Landscape» (2000), «The Dream of Sunny Days» (2000), «Autumn in the Park» (2000), «Daugavpils. By Roman Catholic Church» (2000), «Evening. John Rainis' Manor» (2000), «In Winter» (2001), «The Cemetery near the Temple» (2001), «The Sun in March» (2001), «In the Forest» (2001), «The Last Rays of the Sun (2002), «Twosome at Night» (2002), «Old Yard» (2002), «The Square in front of Town Hall» (2004), «Romantic Motif» (2004), «Temple» (2005), «Morning» (2005), «Fishing Boats» (2009), «On the Outskirts of the Village» (2009), «At the Open Air. South» (2009); the portrait compositions «Granny Dunya» (1985), «Hope» (1989), «Aborigine of Belarusian Village» (2000), «Self-Portrait» (2007); still lives «Roses» (1992) «Ceramics and Flowers» (1999), «Roses and Glass» (1999), «Lonly Mood» (2000), «Ornamental Still Life» (1999), «Envy» (2003), «Still Life on the Window» (2005) and others.

The artist explores the art theory and history, poetics and stylistics of the Belarusian art of XXth century. He is one of the co-authors of «History of Belarusian Art» in 6 volumes, the author of a significant number of articles in Belarusian Encyclopedia, magazines «Mastatstva», «Belarus», «Narodnaya Asveta», «Maladost» the author of introductions to the catalogs, albums about Vitebsk artists, the author of articles in scientific journals of Latvia, Poland, Russia, Germany, Belarus, the author of periodicals («Literature and Mastatstva», «Culture», «Nasha Niva», «Vіtsbіchy», «Vecherny Vitebsk») and others.

As a curator he was involved in the implementation of group projects «Akvarelnaya Syabryna», «Signs of Time», «Vitebsk Station», «Dialogues of Art Schools», «Castle», «There was a War», the organization of exhibitions of the association «Vitebsk Watercolors», series of individual exhibitions of Vitebsk artists.
