Biography

 

Kotovich Tatyana (26.03.1954, Vitebsk). From 1971 to 1976 she studied at the Belarusian State University named after V. Lenin at the Faculty of Journalism, specializing in journalism. After the graduation, she returned to Vitebsk and worked in the Information Department of the Design Bureau of Automated Control Systems.

Since March 1977 T. Kotovich was a correspondent-arranger of the Vitebsk district radio. Since 1982 she was an editor of the Vitebsk regional radio, since 1988 she was an editor of the Vitebsk regional television.

In 1993 she entered the postgraduate course of the Belarusian State University of Culture, specializing in the Theory of Art.

Since September 1997 T. Kotovich was an assistant of the chief director of the Belarusian Academic Drama Theater named after Y. Kolas, also she was the head of the information-analytical center of the theater. Due to her involvement, an exhibition hall was created in the theater. In the local press, a series of articles by T. Kotovich on the creative portraits of the actors of the theater was published. During that period, Tatyana Viktorovna was extensively conducting research on the theatrical method, taking part in scientific conferences in Belarus and abroad.

In January 1999 she defended her thesis on the topic: «Baroque as a universal style of artistic culture of Belarus in the 16th-18th centuries» and earned a Candidate of Art Criticism degree. Since 2001 the main place of work of T. Kotovich was Vitebsk State University named after P.  Masherov, where she returned to the Department of World History and World Culture as a senior teacher. In September 2007 she defended her doctoral thesis. Until 2009 she was combining teaching with her work in the theater.

T. Kotovich's research interests lie in the sphere of artistic means of organization of a work's chronotope (she is engaged in theatrical criticism since 1973, in the projects related to the avant-garde – since 1994). T. V. Kotovich is the author of the project of the international conference «Malevich. Classic avant-garde. Vitebsk», which was held three times in Vitebsk (1994, 1996, 1998); the author of the collections of materials «Malevich. Classic avant-garde. Vitebsk» (11 issues), «Spiritual energy of the theater» (1995). She was an organizer of the republican conference «Transformation of the Theater» (Vitebsk, 1995); the author of the project of a research laboratory of the International Festival of Modern Choreography (1993); the founder of the republican research laboratory of performing arts (1995). In 2003, together with Anastasia Makhova, she directed «Suprematist Ballet», in 2006 – the ballet «Victory over the Sun».

Currently T. Kotovich teaches the disciplines of art criticism and cultural areas («Theory and History of Culture», «World History of Arts»), curates students' research practice, supervises graduation papers and master's theses. She prepared 6 winners of the Republican competition of scientific works of the students of Belarusian universities.

Tatyana is a participant and organizer of international congresses, conferences, festivals, exhibition projects in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. She is the author of more than 500 scientific and artistic publications, including 13 monographs: «A game with the coordinates of meanings: the space-time continuum of the theater» (Vitebsk: VSMU; Minsk, 1999), «Encyclopedia of the Russian avant-garde» (Minsk, 2003), «The space-time continuum of the theater» (Vitebsk, 2005), «Directing the ritual» (Vitebsk, 2009), «Theatrical culture of the Vitebsk region of the 20th century» (Vitebsk, 2009), «The structure of the performance: the will to Postmodernism» (Vitebsk, 2010), «Color – Theater – Chronotope» (Vitebsk, 2010), «Scenography. Vitebsk» (Vitebsk, 2011), «Belarusian theater "Lyalka"» (Vitebsk, 2012), «Sculpture. Objects.
