Biography

 

Filippov Alexander (04.07.1932, Vitebsk – 28.07.2018, Vitebsk), Belarusian artist. He graduated from Vitebsk Art and Graphic College (1957–1961), Art and Graphic Department of Vitebsk Pedagogical Institute named after S. M. Kirov (1963–1968). He combined his study with the work of the accompanist and the head of the dance club (1958–1960). Since 1960 – the teacher of the circle of accordionists and bayanists. He organized an ensemble of bayan players, with whom he performed at all shows and competitions in Vitebsk and Minsk (1960-1970). Alexander worked as an artist at the factory of consumer services (1971–1973), an artist-designer of artistic and industrial workshops (since 1973). Now he works as a teacher at Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute named after S. Kirov at the Department of Fine Arts (since 1980). He is a member of Belarusian Union of Artists (2014). He lives in Vitebsk.

The artist works mainly in easel painting. The main place in his creative work belongs to the lyrical landscapes, among them: «St. Petersburg», «Spaso-Euphrosynievsky Monastery» (2003), «The Leningrad Blockade (White Nights)», «Melodies of St. Petersburg», «Anxiety» (2004), «Polotsk Motif», «September Motif» (2006), «The Mosque in Marmaris» (2008), «Polotsk. St. Sophia Cathedral» (2009), «The Evening on Christmas Eve, «The Burning Evening in Old Vitebsk» (2010), «Sunset in the Old Town, «The Corner of the Old Vitebsk (2011), «The Flood in Old Vitebsk» (2012), «In the Old Vitebsk», «Istanbul», «Old Vitebsk. Winter» (2013), «Heroic Leningrad», «The Courtyard of the Old Vitebsk» (2014), etc. The painter's canvases are characterized by the realistic manner of performance, emotional expressiveness of the images.

In recent years, the artist's works have been exhibited at city, regional, republican and international exhibitions (Russia, Poland). The works are kept in private collections in Germany, the USA, Israel, Poland.
Alexander Filippov died on July 28, 2018 at the age of 87 years.
