Biography

 

Karpan Alexander (06.11.1953, Starokostantynov, Khmelnitsky region, Ukraine– 18.08.2016, Vitebsk), Belarusian artist. He graduated from Art and Graphic Department of Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (1979), taught there. A member of Belarusian Union of Artists (1991). Lives in Vitebsk.

He graduated from Art and Graphic Department of Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute named after S. Kirov (1979), taught there. A member of Belarusian Union of Artists (1991). Lived in Vitebsk.

The artist worked in watercolors and easel graphics, in the genres of still life, portrait, landscape, nude, thematic composition. The works are singled out by expressiveness and ease, spectacular individual style, spectacular combination of classical techniques of watercolors and innovation, special refinement of forms, precise and expressive patterns, meticulous attention to details of the composition, the harmony of color solutions, conceptuality of image.

Among the works are: «Mother» (1981), «The Chernobyl Pastoral» (1989), «Glass and Grapes» (1990), «Still Life with Fish» (2000), «Dasha» (Daughter's portrait) (2003), «Still life with Garlic» (2004), «It's Time to Gather Stones» (2008), «First Snow» (2009), «Old Samovar» (2008), «Solar edge» (2009), series «Flowers» (1988), «Cities and Impressions» (2009) and others.

The works are kept in the collections of Polotsk Historical and Architectural Museum – reserve, Vitebsk Art Museum, the Department of Culture in Nienburg (Germany), Posthof of Nienburg, the Department of Culture in Wetzlar (Germany), the Union of Artists in Bremen (Germany), the society of Belarusian-German friendship in Cuxhaven (Germany), as well as in private collections in Austria, England, Belarus, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Ireland, Canada, China, Latvia, Poland, Russia, USA, Ukraine, France, Czech Republic and Estonia.
