Biography

 

Nikolaev Evgeny (26.12.1913, Minsk – 30.12.1978) is a Belarusian scenic artist, People's artist of Belarus (1967). He graduated from Vitebsk Art College in 1933, worked in Belarusian Theatre named after Yakub Kolas (since 1944 as an art director). He is a member of Belarusian Union of Artists (since 1953). The painter lived in Vitebsk.

Figurative thinking, form singularity, dramatic qualities, colouring tension, the ability to expose features of work's national identity and sense of modernity are typical for his works.

The artist designed more than 200 plays, among which are «Pinskaya Shlyakhta» by Vintsent Dunin-Martsinkyevich (1936), «Piayuc Zhavaranki» by Kondrat Krapiva (1950), «Raskidanae Gniazdo» by Janka Kupala (1951), «Kreposc nad Bugom» by S.Smirnov (1956), «The Heart on the Open Palm» by Ivan Shamiakin (1966), «Voyna pod Kryshamy» by Ales Adamovich (1967), «Tribunal » by Andrey Makaionak (1970) and others.

The artist was decorated with State Prize of Belarus for designing of the play «The 6th of June» by Shatrov in 1967.
